El Rey del Mundo, translated as “King of the World,” is one of Cuba’s oldest cigar brands, established in 1848 by German businessman Emilio Ohmstedt and later revitalized by Spanish businessman Antonio Allones around 1882. The brand achieved global prestige for its premium quality and pricing, particularly renowned for its light to medium strength cigars crafted from the finest Vuelta Abajo tobacco. Despite facing challenges such as the Cuban Revolution and shifting market preferences, El Rey del Mundo maintained its reputation for excellence. Today, cigars like the Choix Supreme continue to be cherished by connoisseurs for their complex flavors and consistent quality. The brand, produced in Havana’s Briones Montoto factory, remains a testament to the enduring legacy of Cuban craftsmanship.
