Tatuaje ME II Robusto is the stout, box-pressed expression of Pete Johnson’s Mexican Experiment — a thick-ring Robusto that compresses the line’s San Andrés richness into a shorter, more concentrated format.
Handcrafted in Nicaragua at the Garcia family’s My Father Cigars factory in Estelí, this cigar wears a deep, oily Mexican San Andrés Maduro wrapper over a Nicaraguan binder and aged Nicaraguan long-fillers, finished with a soft box press that frames the cigar’s chunky, weighty silhouette and channels every flavor with intensity.
The smoking experience opens with rich dark chocolate, peppercorn, and a savory earth-and-leather core, then deepens into layered notes of espresso, oak, brown sugar, toasted nuts, and creamy maduro warmth — finishing with hints of raisin sweetness, baking spice, vanilla, and a lingering mole-like depth that defines the line. The wider 54 ring gauge produces a thick, chewy smoke that coats the palate from light to nub.
This box-pressed Robusto vitola measures 5″ (127mm) with a 54 ring gauge, hand-rolled for approximately 60–75 minutes of medium-to-full smoking.
Our suggestion for cigars of similar strength:
Ideal with añejo tequila, aged rum, dark espresso, or a milk stout — pairings that draw out the cigar’s cocoa-and-brown-sugar sweetness and stand up to the San Andrés wrapper’s earthy depth without overpowering its layered Mexican character.
