Tatuaje Nuevitas Estelí is the refined Robusto from Pete Johnson’s resurrected Nuevitas line — a Nicaraguan puro originally discontinued in 2007 and brought back over a decade later, named for a coastal town in Cuba’s Camagüey province and built to honor the old-world flavors that inspired it.

Handcrafted in Nicaragua at the Garcia family’s My Father Cigars factory in Estelí, this cigar is dressed in a smooth, oily Nicaraguan Corojo ’99 wrapper over a Nicaraguan binder and aged Nicaraguan long-fillers — a true puro construction finished with a distinctive exposed-binder foot that lets you taste the inner blend before the wrapper engages.

The smoking experience opens with cedar, baking spice, and a brisk hit of white pepper, then evolves into a layered midsection of vanilla, hazelnut, leather, dark chocolate, and toasted bread — finishing with hints of dried fruit, almond, mulled wine sweetness, and a long, savory tobacco trail. The Corojo ’99 wrapper carries a refined sweetness that balances the spicier core throughout.

This Robusto vitola measures 5″ (127mm) with a 52 ring gauge, hand-rolled for approximately 60–75 minutes of medium-to-full smoking.

Our suggestion for cigars of similar strength:

Ideal with cortado coffee, light bourbon, white rum, or a glass of dry sherry — pairings that highlight the cigar’s cedar-and-baking-spice core and complement its refined, old-world character without overshadowing the nuanced sweetness.
